Military Medical Leader Development

Griffith Institute - Military Leader Development

The Griffith Institute’s Center for Military Medical Leadership will coordinate and implement a comprehensive medical leader development program at USU and across the MHS. The goal of this effort is to produce military health professionals firmly grounded in the principles and practices of military leadership.  The goal of this effort is that graduates of the School of Medicine should, on graduation, be capable of functioning as Operational Medical Officers. The graduates of the Graduate School of Nursing should be capable of serving in a ROLE II in a deployed environment.   Strategic tasks include:

  • Oversight and Integration.  Develop professional military medical leaders within the USU community. Integrate USU programs with those of the United States Military Academy, the United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy and other external stakeholders to ensure that the medical professional development program is continuous, and progressive. Develop leaders who are capable of functioning at the tactical, operational and strategic levels within the Armed Services.
  • Education.  Support leader development education across the University by providing instructors, course development and subject matter experts.
  • Curriculum Coordination.  Assist in the design and administration of leadership curricula in USU’s schools and colleges, working closely with the deans and the Brigade Commander to achieve leader development objectives.
