  • The Defense Medical Ethics Center (DMEC)  attached to the Griffith Institute, serves three functions for DoD, USU and the MHS:
    • MHS-wide Resource:  As directed by DODI 6025.27, 1/2017, the DMEC is the lead in Military Medical Ethics for all health care providers in the MHS/DoD.  The President of USU has overall responsibility for DMEC.
    • Coordination:  The DMEC coordinates and integrates medical ethics programs with the Griffith Institute’s military medical leadership and professional development curriculum and programs to ensure that USU Students become ethical practitioners and leaders at all levels in the nation's uniformed health services.
    • Education:  The DMEC, develops a wide range of educational material, videos and an APP for the purpose of educating the DoD Healthcare Force in all matters related to Medical Ethics.
    • Direct Support of the MHS Healthcare Force as required by the DoDI, the DMEC is available 24/7 via an internet portal to provide guidance and information in real time to members of the DoD Healthcare Force who are dealing with ongoing medical ethics challenges.
